Today is the mother's day celebration in Thailand, and we have to wear white to give respect for their queen. After the flag ceremony, the teachers have gone to the gym where they can honor and bow to the image of their queen. It's my pleasure to witness this kind of event in their country to enrich my knowledge about their culture.
I got to observe 4 classes today, and as a summarization of this week's observation, I discovered that all of the students are sports active even the girls! And this thing amazed me the most! They do love sports and they are physically active. Students are sorted into sections according to their academic profile, as result, the class' are different from each other and the teacher must be flexible in dealing with diverse class groups, so changing teaching strategy must be observed.

Like a typical day in Banmakhaeng school, it started by me joining them in their flag ceremony to pay respect for their flag and also in their king. Today, I have only 1 class to observe, Matthayom 3/4, from 12:50 to 13.40. Their topic is about how to use your legs and knee properly in sepak takraw and how to kick the ball when served by your teammate. After class, I waited until my co-sea teachers finished their class observation. We left the Banmakkhaeng school at 15.00.
The students are excellent in demonstrating the instructed activity, they perform very well but the others have difficulty when performing the task especially the girls. But I noticed that other girls are having their job well done and other boys are having complexity when performing the task. Today is a hectic day, although my mentor Mr. Sombat doesn't have class, I still came to Banmakkhaeng school to observe. Luckily, Kru Bing took me to her class' so I have a class to follow, I came to observe and answer all the questions of her students, I attended five classes and I answer all their questions. It was very fun and I continue to learn about Thai students.
Kru Bing's lesson for today is about reading clock and I was very shocked to know that they have a different way in reading clock. Later that, We went to U.D Town with our Thai friends and I bought ballpens with animal designs! U.D Town is charming and It was very great to know that they also have night market here like in the Philippines and they have lots of affordable commodities there. This day went pretty good to me although I am tired and exhausted. We started our day by officially joining their flag ceremony to pay respect for their flag and their king. After the flag ceremony, Vincent and I parted our ways and gone to our own office. My office is located at 3rd floor of the second building. I am with Mathayom 3 teachers and they are charming and approachable. They ate breakfast together every day, and they pay respect for each other and as well as with the visitors like me and my sea teachers friends. I also officially started my observation in the class' of my mentor Mr.Sombat and I am happy because girls here are very competitive and they do love sports. I observed 3 class throughout the day. It was entertaining and full of surprises today since it is my first day of observation.
Students are happy to meet someone with different nationality and they are dazzled to see someone who's way and language are different from them. I must know that I don't have to travel overseas to find this kind of problem, such as language barrier and culture shock because the Philippines consists of thousands of islands and it is deemed to happened that kind of problem. My first day in the Banmakkhaeng school is lovely. I addressed myself in front of almost 4,000 students. I tried to introduce myself in Thai language and the students are pleased hearing me talk in their language.
After the flag ceremony, I have gone to the faculty room of the grade 9 teachers and they are very kind, they gave me a lot of food to eat for breakfast and also they gave me food to eat for dinner. There's nothing much to do during my first day, Mr. Sombat just gave me his class' schedule for the whole week and there's no P.E class every first day of the week. Later that day, after the class, we went outside the school and ate noodles with our Thai friends and they also accompanied us to buy tourist sim which I am going to use for 27 more days here in Udon Thani, Thailand When we arrived in Udon Thani airport, the students of Miss Kim fetched us up and dropped us in the school's dormitory to rest. After awhile, we went to the room where the program was held, and I was shocked because almost all of the faculty members are there and we are expected to go in front and introduce ourselves. After we had introduced ourselves, we took a lunch break and we will come back to play the game "Finding Buddy."
It was amusing meeting them, and it took several minutes for me to find my buddy, Joseph, because the clue is very limited and was very hard for me to comprehend. After we met our buddies, we ate dinner altogether and that's how my first day in Udon Thani went. August 5, 2017 at 8:00 P.M we have officially left the Manila, Philippines, it was my first time riding a plane and having an overseas trip. By the time the plane started to take-off, my mind is full of excitement knowing that there's a lot of new experiences are waiting for me.
It's already 10:00 P.M when we arrived in Bangkok and I still can't believe that I'm in the different country, we have to wait for about 8 hours for our next flight from Bangkok to Udon Thani. August 6, 2017 at 7:00 A.M we took our flight from Bangkok to Udon Thani and by 9:00 A.M we officially arrived to our main destination from our long journey! |
